We only have a few days left of our month’s stay at Torre del Mar and then then we will start making a very slow move north so that we can meet up with our friends, Tom and Jo, who arrive at Santander on the 14th of December. Our stop here has been great and of course the good weather has helped a lot. We have done lots of cycling and walking and have thoroughly enjoyed all the local facilities and the bus service that has taken us around the area.
The main thing to talk about is our wedding anniversary and our two day stop at the Balcon de Europa Hotel at Nerja. So, on the 1st we packed our bags and walked up to the bus depot to catch the bus to our two day stop at a luxurious hotel ( we know how to travel in style ). Being an ex boy scout, I do like to be prepared for any event so my bag was far heavier than it should have been which I soon came to regret on our walk into town. The bus journey took us about 3/4 of an hour and then we had the walk down to the front and to our hotel.
As a lot of you will know, we have lived in this and our previous motorhome since the 1st of September 2014: right through our previous European tour and all the while whilst back in England and until now. You can only imagine our wonder when we first got into the enormous hotel room and saw the 8 foot by 8 foot bed.
The suite was on the fourth floor and from the balcony in the room we had a perfect view over the whole of the bay.
Whilst unpacking I discovered that I had forgotten to pack a pair of smart trousers so the next hours were spent wandering around the shops looking for a pair I was happy with. All the shops we tried had trousers that would have been the right length if I’ve had a pair of stilts packed away in my bag. Finally we found what I was looking for in a Chinese store at a fraction of the price of the one length pairs we had seen in all the smart stores.
Later on we were sitting on our balcony when I spotted a pod of dolphins making their way across the bay but unfortunately I failed to get a picture but we were both delighted to have witnessed this magnificent sight. We chose not to have our meal in the hotel’s restaurant and instead found a superb restaurant that served Spanish food and had a very enjoyable evening dining and chatting with a couple on the next table who were from Blackpool.
Wednesday was our wedding anniversary so after a leisurely breakfast we made our way up to the bus stop to catch a bus to the Nerja Caves.
As you can see from the pictures we had a magical tour of this natural wonder that has taken over 20,000 years to turn them into this now famous visitor attraction.
On the way back we walked back to Nerja so we could take in the 19th century aqueduct called the Eagle Aqueduct that was built to take water to an old sugar factory. It will not happen but Elaine and I have agreed that if we were ever tempted to move to Spain then Nerja would be the place of choice. We have now found out that Thomson holidays do a package holiday to this very hotel and would unreservedly recommend it to anyone.
Despite the luxury, we are both delighted to be back at our motorhome and now the planning of the next places to visit begin……… all the time keeping an eye on the weather.
